Tacoma Academy to Host Fundraising Event

The Salon Professional Academy of Tacoma is hosting a fundraising event to support the reign of Ms. Wheelchair America, Jennifer Adams, and develop a legacy for future contestants.

The Hair Show Benefit featuring student talent is called “Shine Bright Like a Diamond,” and is scheduled for March 25 and will be held at The Salon Professional Academy of Tacoma campus. This event will be filled with a showcase of amazing hair styles and creative cosmetic applications created by Academy students, as well as a silent auction. Fashion Designer Victor Aguirre will be styling a series of models in his signature gowns featuring hand beading and a variety of creative textures and materials.

All proceeds will be charitably used to develop a legacy for the Ms. Wheelchair America program, and will develop an endowment to allow future contestants to fulfill their dreams.  Jenny Adams, the reigning Ms. Wheelchair America, will emcee the event. The Salon Professional Academy of Tacoma is the official beauty provider for Adams.

Adams was crowned Ms. Wheelchair America during the July 2013 competition, which was held in Houston, Texas. Organized in 1972 as a forum for the promotion of the achievements, as well as the needs of, people with mobility impairments, Ms. Wheelchair America recognizes the accomplishments of women who utilize wheelchairs for mobility. The non-profit program has grown since its beginning to include programs in nearly every state.

To qualify, Adams competed in, and won, Ms. Wheelchair Washington in March 2013, providing her the opportunity to represent the State of Washington at the national event.

A long-time client of The Salon Professional Academy of Tacoma, the team at the Academy helped prepare Adams for both competitions. The entire team helped with the fundraising process, to ensure that travel expenses associated with the national event were met. Academy alumnus Lindsey Fabela also travelled with Adams to the competition in Houston to assist with skin and hair needs and styling.

Adams’s national platform title is “Inclusion Revolution,” which is designed to spread the message of acceptance and awareness to businesses, schools, and legislators in America.

Adams holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University, a certification in Radio Broadcasting, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Faith Seminary. Through her education, life experience, and professional experience, Adams started a motivational speaking business, SHIFT. The message of her story “shifts” peoples’ mindsets to see the possibilities beyond their limitations.

“We are so proud of Jenny,” explained Karen Shea, owner of The Salon Professional Academy of Tacoma. “She is an incredible woman, and we are excited to continue to help her along on her journey.”

Tickets to the event are $15 for general admission, and $35 for VIP seating, and can be found online at www.tspaTacoma.com. Seating is limited.
