Look Good... Feel Better in Need of Volunteers

Founded by the Personal Care Products Council Foundation in 1989, Look Good…Feel Better® is currently provided through a collaboration between the American Cancer Society; the Personal Care Products Council Foundation; and the Professional Beauty Association | National Cosmetology Association (PBA | NCA). LGFB-Certified, licensed beauty professionals (cosmetologists, estheticians, nail technicians) who form the heart and soul of the program, help female cancer patients improve their appearance and self-image by teaching them beauty techniques designed to overcome the appearance-related effects of cancer treatments. The sessions and materials (including a free cosmetic kit to each group participant) are provided to the patients free of charge. The program is salon and product neutral and no brands, manufacturers or salons are endorsed.

Patients who have participated in Look Good…Feel Better® call it an emotional lifesaver.  Small group sessions most often take place at area hospitals and at community organizations. Sessions include make-up, skin and nail care tips and techniques. Patients also learn how to disguise hair loss using wigs, turbans and scarves.

If any licensed cosmetologist is interested in learning more about the opportunity they can contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 to be directed to their local office for a program volunteer training.
