Local Hair Artist Steals the Show

Ryan TealRyan Teal, co-owner of Teal Salon in downtown Portland, is a local hair artist with a national following. He's been on the road for the past 12 weekends straight, bouncing from town to town, state to state for venue after venue.

The journey for this season started in New York for Fashion Week, where Ryan worked backstage as a team member for L'oreal Professional, dressing hair for various fashion designers. He rocked the runway for Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B., made beautiful creations for Jenny Packham's bridal show, added spice to Bibhu Mohapatra's international flavor, and accented Elene Cassis' timeless designs with awe-inspiring hair.

Next it was on to America's Beauty Show in Chicago, Illinois, where Ryan taught wedding and bridal hair to other industry professionals, packing the house with every show. New Jersey followed with long hairdressing classes for various private venues and then home to Portland for a very busy week in the salon.

DeAnnalyn Teal, Ryan's wife, business partner and master stylist and colorist, joined him for the next event, which was back in Chicago at the Midwest International Salon and Spa Expo. The Teals showcased their own long hairdressing and special ops' classes, which included wig making and hairpiece techniques designed for platform artists and session hairstylists - a medium the Teals hold very near and dear to their heart.

After heading home to Portland for a few days, Ryan traveled solo again with L'oreal for a distributor show in Saint Louis and then on to another event in Austin the week following. And the fun simply doesn't end there! There was Orlando for the Premier Show for both Teals in June and a whole season ahead bouncing from the greater Northwest to Boston, Detroit, Manhattan and even Oahu for a string of industry events.

When not behind the chair in the salon or on the road educating, the Teals head into the studio to create educational videos or to digitally capture their work for trend releases to the media. These edgy editorial collections have graced the pages of countless industry publications from all over the world and have also been awarded with many honors. Most recently, the Teals were named Salon Team of the Year for the prestigious North American Hairdressing Awards (NAHA) and obtained the title of International Stylists of the Year for the Canadian-based Mirror Awards.

When asked why the crazy schedule, Ryan replied with a grin, "I am looking to stretch our horizons a bit. To reach outside of the comfort zone, extend personal boundaries and to learn, create and influence more with and for our craft."
