P&G Salon Professional is building the next generation of stylists with their first student stylist competitionheld at America’s Beauty Show.  The competition is open to all non-licensed students enrolled in a certified cosmetology school as of September 2009 or recent graduates not yet licensed as of February 2011. Winners will receive cash and education prizes. Students will enter the competition with a photo submission of their interpretation of a pre-selected look from the P&G Salon Portfolio and finalists will compete in Chicago at America’s Beauty Show on March 14th, 2011.

Building the Next Generation of Stylists

P&G Salon Professional is dedicated to providing exciting opportunities to its stylists and wanted to provide the same to future stylists. Fabio Sementilli, Creative Director for P&G Salon Professional, is excited for the student competition: “Today, I’m the Creative Director of P&G salon professional working shoulder to shoulder with the coolest and biggest stars in our industry but none of this would have been possible if I didn’t take that chance to show my skills in competition. Go ahead and make your mark!”  P&G Salon Professional wanted to give students an exciting stage to display their skills and what better venue than America’s Beauty Show. P&G Salon Professional’s goal for this competition is to energize and encourage students to reach their highest potential as stylists.  With this student competition P&G Salon Professional is building the next generation of stylists.

Not Just a Hair Competition

The competition will consist of three categories, Wella Professionals, Clairol Professional and Sebastian Professional. Students must select one category to compete in; the Wella Professionals and Clairol Professional categories judging emphasis will be based on color and the Sebastian Professional category judging emphasis will be based on cut and style. Students must list their inspiration behind their look on their entry form and students must detail their formula choices for looks involving color. Students will be judged not just on their hairstyling but on their overall look, this includes make-up, wardrobe style and finish, overall color technique (if applicable), application, placement and result.

A panel of PGSP top stylists will review the entries and select the student finalists.  Finalists competing in Chicago will recreate their submission look on stage at America’s Beauty Show for a panel of judges and those attending America’s Beauty Show.  The winning students will be selected through a combined score of their panel rating and crowd participation. The winner from each category will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize, a PGSP Stylist Kit and their choice of an in-school education course taught by a PGSP top educator.

Entry forms, “How To” guides for each category as well as competition rules and regulations can be downloaded at www.pgsalonpro.com/studentcompetition All submissions must be postmarked by February 11th, 2011.
