Inspiration, Smoky Eyes and Nail Retreats

MJ McCoyMJ McCoy, artistic director and network educator for the Cielo Salon in Medford, was recognized for her outstanding performance with the Cielo Inspire Award for 2013.

"The Cielo Salon Inspire Award recognizes the partner who represents our corporate mission, values and culture with passion and commitment," announced Cielo president, Christina Apodaca. "The recipient has demonstrated the qualities that serve to promote the Cielo experience for our clients, advances her professional career and has a genuine commitment to our community."

In addition to receiving the award, McCoy will be enrolled at the prestigious Bumble and Bumble University, in New York City, for an advanced skills enhancement course. The curriculum is designed to cultivate great leaders, powerful teachers and dedicated advocates for personal and professional growth. It trains the top talent in salons from around the country on the principles that inspire creativity, superlative customer service and retail success.

McCoy has been very active in the Medford community where she currently sits on the Board of Directors for Community Works and she has directed the Artistic Team for Southern Oregon's Got Talent, a fund raising event for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) that has raised over $80,000.00 in the past three years and other events and causes benefiting the at-risk youth of Southern Oregon.

"MJ is not only a highly accomplished professional in her career but is also a fabulous ambassador of the Cielo Salon brand" added Apodaca.

Celebrity makeup artist and "Jerseylicious" cast member, Olivia Blois Sharpe, presented professional workshops recently on how to create a flawless smoky eye. The workshops were held at the Phagans School of Hair Design campus in Clackamas Town Center.

Sharpe graduated from Christine Valmy International School of Beauty. Since then, she has worked for several high-clientele salons, including The Gatsby and Anthony Robert Salon as well as working under Alexa Prisco as a "Glam Fairy."

Students and fans showed up to learn the famous smoky eye from Sharpe resulting in Phagan's students having a private one hour meet-and-greet with the famous artist.

"It was such a pleasure hosting Olivia and getting to meet another Jersey girl," said Barbara Climaldi, owner of Phagans School of Hair Design. "It was great exposure for our Phagans students and the school, as it highlighted what can happen once you finish beauty school."

Salon Services launched MensDept recently in Seattle which is a high performance line of men's grooming products created by David Raccuglia who has partnered with Salon Services for exclusive distribution throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Montana.

"It's time to bring back the men's salon within salon mentality, exclaimed George Learned, owner and vice president of Salon Services whose desire to assist salons in increasing service dollar and retail dollar makes this partnership a perfect match."

The 6th Annual NW Nail Tech Retreat will be held from Oct 18-21, 2013 on Vashon Island, Washington.

"Our event is very different than any other event in the industry," explained . It is truly a retreat, we are at a camp in a beautiful Vashon Island location," said Ellen Torchia, NW nail tech coordinator. "The event is all inclusive so not only do we learn together but the unique setting gives the attendees time to dine with and meet the educators on a personal level."

This event is already sold out this year with a waiting list but Athena Elliott will be broadcasting live on Nail Tech Radio on Sunday night. The nail competition will be held for attendees only this year. One purpose of the retreat is to try to encourage those to compete that have not done so before. Attendees get to take a class on perfecting their pink and whites, learn from the educators, and then put those skills to work in the competition. The event will give proceeds from their extra raffle tickets to LIFEWIRE, a domestic violence program, who will have a guest speaker at the retreat.
