Balancing the Scales of Life

Doesn't it seem like an extra tall order these days to try to find the right balance in life- especially when juggling a career or business with home life?

Life can get pretty unbalanced running a business or building a career of your own while trying to keep hold of a strong home life.

It is extremely important to maintain a proper balance between work life and personal life. It is not an easy task, in fact, it is often a challenge we struggle with on a day-to-day basis.

If you're not achieving some sort of balance, consider making a resolution to work towards this life aspiration in the upcoming year. It is time to balance the scale in your favor.

Finding the right balance in your life can center you, ground you, solidify you, and actually bring forward newfound energy -- possibly enough energy to reconnect with your profession and craft in a new way, and revisit your original passions while considering new ones.

What was it you wanted to do in the first place with your work? Do you even remember? What creativity or artistry are you thinking of that may need to be expressed and fulfilled in your career? What was your original dream or vision for your business or career goals?

What do you want now? If you find ways, even little ways, to work towards a more balanced work life and home life, you will find that you have some necessary time to think things through with a clearer head. You may become inspired with your business and career in new ways that you have never considered possible. Let's do this as we move into 2013.

Working non-stop until the wee hours of the morning every day is the most effective way to get things done and therefore, you become a huge success in business. Right? Well, not exactly.

We can't be producing better business when we're at our worst. Let's challenge this statement by simply reminding ourselves that self-care support must be a priority. This concept can easily begin with a good night's sleep or perhaps can turn into a therapy such as a restorative massage.

You might look into some form of restorative body work such as yoga, whatever methods work best for you. If we are not taking good care of ourselves, we cannot truly give the best of what we have to offer to anyone else in our lives- our families, our patrons, our coworkers, our staff, etc. Balancing better health with better business should be top of the list this year.

Over the years, I have finally learned the concept of "business hours." Yes, actual business hours. As a result, at some point in the evening, my phone does get either turned off, or is lovingly placed in a different room in the house. Then, in the morning, I easily pick up the phone, turn it on, look through my emails and texts, and begin my day.

It is these small steps for balancing life's unbalanced scales that make a big effect day-to-day and energize us. Creating boundaries, even with your telephone, will allow you the structure and freedom to lead your business in the very best way.

Take a look at your life. There are ways in which you can find allowances for a better balance between work life and home life. It is okay to disconnect yourself for a period of time. In fact, consistently breaking from the craze of day-to-day business can bring higher productivity in less time. And, it's okay to say "no" once in a while to someone or something. And, it's okay to delegate work. These ideas can help to create much required time for restoration and rejuvenation.

Take some time to take care of yourself. Take care of your home. Take care of your family. Even more, take some time to connect to your dreams again and take some time to discover some new dreams.

What were your original business goals? What are your new ones? Do you even have new goals? If your career or business or home life seems stuck in some way, it may be quite possible you are basically unbalanced and out of focus.

All you have to do is take time to make time to focus on what's important -- your unique purposes in life. Write them down; make them clear and solid. Connect up with the strong desires you no doubt had at the beginning of your career. With a better, healthier life balance, you stand a better chance at recharging your original goals and creating new goals, both professionally and personally.
