Integrity — Important Inside the Bottle and Out

My mantra has been and always will be, "to maintain the quality and integrity of hair."

And, it's not only important to what's inside the bottle, but out. Integrity is what sets professional and quality hairdressers, salon owners, manufacturers, and products apart from the rest.

Doing the right thing, learning as much as we can, offering the best products and services, going the extra mile... it's called "integrity."

To me, this not only applies to the chemistries in my product line, but also to the people who manufacture it for me, myself, my salon, my salon staff, and the services and also the customer service that we provide to Marco Pelusi Hair Studio's clients.

As industry professionals, we look for and offer quality, don't we? We educate ourselves through quality and about quality at all time. This is why our clients come to us- for reliable and consistent expertise and honesty.

I've said it, lived it, done it, believed in it, breathed it for years and years, in salons and with manufacturers, as far back as I can remember, even as a beginner working in my family's salon chain. We are and should be working toward and striving for absolute top quality in shampoos, conditioners, styling products, chemical products, our personal selves, and our businesses.

Let's face it- we're the authority that clients look to for proper education on one of their single most important assets -- their hair! Salon owners, hairdressers, as well as all manufacturers and products, must be concerned with product quality. And, let's not forget to mention the integrity of the specific retail outlets where professional salon products are offered.

On the educational training front, I truly enjoy educating and connecting with many wonderful, savvy, smart hairdressers who specifically pay for and take time for travel to hold classes with me to support their careers and education. Attending training classes and seminars is a testament to the dedication and integrity of true professionals in our industry. And this testament exemplifies what we all should aim to be -- lifelong learners who learn about the best and offer nothing but the best.

Striving for such professionalism includes questioning and education on all hair care products and ingredients that we work with on our clients and keeping an eye out for what's new and going out there in our field.

Go ahead, you may already be doing it-- take a look at ingredient labels and ask questions, expect answers, and get educated. Get conscious of what's inside each product. Communication about product quality should be shared. I am so pleased to be able to stand behind the quality of my product line and my classes when I am called upon to educate, whether in front of a group or with an individual client in my chair. It takes each and every one of us to make a real effort to offer and maintain integrity. That's what keeps our clients coming back.

Thankfully, I feel that manufacturers today are seeking to achieve the best in quality because we as hairdressers and owners, as well as our clients, are savvier than ever. We know what to look for in a product. We know what's healthy for hair, and we know we need to educate and offer our clients on the very best available solutions.

We also know we must educate ourselves constantly on what's new and to then share that same information with our clients. We have to keep an open mind, because there are often newer products that do the job even better than the current ones.

People also know what to look for in a salon and a hairdresser. Never before has the salon client been more informed and educated thanks to the internet, fashion and industry magazines, and social media, etc.

Challenge yourself and your staff to be part of the integrity effort by not settling for anything but the best in hair care, hair care manufacturers, yourself, your staff, and your services. Are you up for the challenge? After all, isn't that what you would expect?
