Wrapping Up the Year with Well Wishes

As the weather starts to turn from the crispness of fall to the chill of winter, the days become shorter and the nights become longer, it is evident that 2009 is coming to an end. For some, this might be a welcoming end to a year of struggle. For others, looking forward to a new year and new outlook on life.

In this issue, columnist Jerry Tyler takes a look back on what he has gained, learned and lost while riding on life’s “Blue Highways.” You will be inspired by his article reflecting on the power the beauty industry has to create opportunity in times of adversity; the responsibility to guide and inspire evolving new professionas; and the challenge to embrace change and accept the new.

Charlene Abretske reminds beauty professionals of the effect they have on their clients’ lives. She believes it is important to celebrate every time a client raises his or her head a little higher or has an extra bounce in their step on the way out of the salon. What beauty professionals do on a daily basis is extraordinary and transformational.

The end of the year is a great time to look at your salon through your customer’s eyes. Elizabeth Kraus suggests when developing your salon promotions for a new year, view the value of the promotion from your client’s point of view. Create promotions to maximize the pleasure factor for your client.

Judith Culp shares ideas on how to enhance your client’s bliss level for a de-stressing holiday season. De-stressing your client gives them a gift that can last for days. She suggests to look for ways to add more massage and alternative therapies such as Reiki or ayurvedic treatments, makeup and client stocking stuffers or gifts.

As the year draws to a close, Stylist Newspapers invited some of our industry leaders to share holiday wishes and happy thoughts. We invite you to take a few moments to read them during the rush of the holiday season and marvel at the talents that allow you to share beauty with your clients all year long.
