Strive for Equilibrium During Difficult Times

It's a tall order these days to create balance in our hectic schedules, especially as we're all adjusting to the new economic environment in this great land of ours.

Additionally, aside from the increased stress during the holidays, it's been a newly pressurizing challenge lately just simply to maintain our business. Perhaps some of your clients are saying they just can't afford you right now, and are making do on their own, as best they can.

Or perhaps they’re stretching out their appointments with you as much as is possible. It's just an off  time.

Frankly, and personally, I wish it were different. But shall we hide under the covers, give up, and close our doors? I think not. In fact, we should do just the opposite. Now is the time for courageous adjustment.

Go back to basics. Start with your book of clients, and maximize your earning potential. Buck up my friends – get smart and aggressive. Work a little harder each and every day. The trick now, will be moving forward, is to create a balance while you’re doing it, and not to become overwhelmed.

A good place to start is simply attitude. Adjust your attitude – whenever negative or slightly negative – and change your attitude to one of gratitude. Simply remind yourself to “take it one day at a time.”

It’s really just that simple. Make an effort to feel blessed wherever you can. Feel blessed when you get new referrals. Do you ever treat new clients as a hassle, rather than as a gift? Accept each and every new client as a reward for your hard work. Do it now, seize the opportunity, and feel positive.

Do you worry that you’ll become stressed because you'll be too busy if you accept new clients? Well, good! Remember, it’s all gratitude, my friends. If you are feeling stressed – while making money – and staying afloat – this is a good stress.

Remember to feel blessed when you’re busy. Start with positive thinking surrounding the busy times, and your book will grow, even in the most challenging times, and you will actually feel less stressed. The most important thing is to get smart about booking your time. Time is money, and there's no time to waste. Even this new awareness will make your profits stronger in both the short and long term.

But even when we’re thinking positively, and moving forward with grace and dignity, we still will have days where it feels insurmountable. These are the days when our back feels like it will give out, or when our feet hurt, or when we emotionally don’t feel we can cope with our clients. These are the days when we must take care of ourselves.

Have you thoroughly explored massage, chiropractic services and/or acupuncture? Have you scrupulously investigated exercise and/or a personal trainer? Believe me, I know adding even one more thing to an already seemingly overwhelming schedule feels difficult, but it’s worth it.

If you’re keeping up a challenging pace, and dealing with daily stress, you must address it somehow, or your body will cry out. Check with your accountant about expenses such as massage. See how they will fit into your finances. The treatments are worth it if you get good results. Can’t afford it? How about a trade? We must maintain our bodies in order to work well, and to cope with our everyday stresses.

In short, we don't know where our economy will be in six months. But we CAN make a choice to aim for healthy bodies and minds. Let's make the most of this new year and experience a better quality of life and business. Remember that it’s all about positive attitude and gratitude!
